MSC Sports Curriculum

The essential aim of our Mansfield Sport Program is to maximise opportunities for students to participate in sport and physical activity at school, at interschool level and in the wider community. The school places a strong emphasis on participation, with a wide range of interschool competitions.

A great emphasis is placed on House Sporting Competitions at Mansfield Secondary School. These competitions provide tradition, team spirit and an opportunity for House Captains to be involved in team organisation and leadership. They also increase the opportunities for sport participation among students.

The House Sporting Competitions are:
  • Swimming: A whole-school swimming carnival is held in February each year at the Mansfield Swimming Pool. The program includes both traditional strokes and novelty events to increase student participation.
  • Track & Field: A whole-school athletics carnival is held in March each year at the Lords Oval.
  • Cross Country: In May, the House Cross Country event is held in farmland across the road from the cemetery. Students complete in three or five kilometre course across the undulating land.
  • House Round Robin: This competition is held in November and involves all students from years 7 – 10 competing against their fellow students in a tabloid 4 game activity day where points are scored and votes are given. This is our final sports day and the emphasis is on fun, sportsmanship and competition.

Interschool Sports

The School Sport Victoria program allows for school teams to compete against the other schools in the Southern Ranges Division in Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country and Round Robin Sports. These competitions occur throughout the year and winners of these competitions go through to compete in the Hume Region and then State Finals.
